Hi all,in Brisbane we don't have plants that hibernate for winter so we have flowers and colour all year round. We are so lucky to have warm weather even though this means I can't wear what I make all the time. It is a glorious warm sunny day here and I just want to go play in the garden and soak it all up.
I have been commissioned to make lots of flowers by a local restaurant Des Alpes, for Mothers Day. So I have been busy deciding what flowers to make, I decided on an African Flower which is a popular hexagon for rug making but left off the last row and used Slipstitch instead of Double Crochet around the edge. I tried different yarns and hook sizes to give a lot of variety. I changed some of these in the first and second row to give a slightly different shape. In the first row it is 1 Treble, 1 chain 1 Treble and repeat to end until you have 6 groups - for some I just did 12 Trebles into the circle. And for the second row it is 2 Treble, 1 Chain 2 Treble in each chain space (or inbetween every 2nd Treble) I did some 1 Treble, 2 Chain, 1 Treble instead. These are the UK terminology for the US a Treble is a Double Crochet and a Double Crochet is a single Crochet and a Slipstitch is a Slipstitch everywhere I hope.

I was thinking that we would also need some different flowers so these I made up. I like the depth that 2 layers of petals gives and the possibilities for colour with 3 rows. They were very simple to do and might try to write the instructions later and add them in. I have made 99 flowers so far and will do some more as I get colour inspired again. So far all but 3 flowers are different - I only made 3 the same because I loved how the colours went together.

And these are the 3rd type, just a simple 6 petalled flower. These must be the easiest flowers to make but they look so sweet, especially if you have a small pile to look at. For these you start off with a circle of 12 Trebles, change your colour and now you can either do a petal in between every 2nd Treble or in the chain of every 2nd Treble. Make a cluster of 1 Double Crochet, 1 Treble, 1 Double Treble, 1 Treble, 1 Double Crochet or you can do a Half Treble instead of a Double Crochet and you can do 2 Double Trebles instead of 1. If you have never made a flower before this is the type to try. If you have a look at the Pink flower with the yellow centre on the left you can see how different the middle is, it is nicely defined - this is how the flower looks when you work the petal in between the Trebles rather than into the chain.

Well hello and welcome to my first blog. I am sure that I will make heaps of ridiculous mistakes so please have a chuckle and if you can offer any advice leave me a comment :)

I am wanting to share what I do and am happy to answer questions about crochet.

I am always working on several different morsels, as of today I have a knitted sweater, a granny stripe blanket, another blanket, part of a snowman and hundreds of flowers all on the go. The pic below is of a granny stripe I made for my daughter, the one I am now working on is larger and has a few more colours. All the colours are chosen from the lovely soft Stylecraft DK range. I love working with colou
